Lots of love: Becoming a mom with my first son, Mitchell Cox, was such an overwhelming moment of pure love for this new little person.
The ultimate riches: Health is really the only true wealth. Sounds corny but I see it constantly in my work as a pharmacist.
Play it loud: I am happiest when I am training in my home gym/studio with my music blaring!
Secret skills: People are surprised to learn about my music and step-dancing background. I studied in France with one of the top concert pianists in the world, Cecile Ousette, and I step-danced all over Ontario performing in front of thousands on TV and in concerts as a teenager.
Tears of joy: The last time I cried was when my husband surprised me with flowers after I had written my diabetes exams and wasn’t sure if I had passed–it was so thoughtful and unexpected!

Name: Sandy Batten

Age: 59
Sobered up: Drinking took me down a dark path and on January 27, 1998, I reached out for help. I started a 12-step program of recovery. I learned about myself on a deep level and became who I wanted to be. Since then, I’ve reinvented myself repeatedly: I helped my parents through the end of life, got divorced and remarried, had my sixth child, have seven grandchildren, I’ve gone back to school and four years ago, I traveled to India by myself. Name: Sandy Batten

Life as a grandmother: I got to deliver my grandson and place him on my daughter’s chest.
Fear not: I’m afraid of not reaching my potential.

Standing tall: My divorce taught me to stand up for myself, and to be the strong independent woman I am today. And I’m proud of my growth and how far I have come on this journey.
Happy days: I am most happy when I am training, and I love the fact that both my teens have caught the fitness bug and love to be at our home gym with my training (when my daughter is home from university).
On getting carded: I love it when I can go places and both my daughter, 19, and I will get ID requested.
Get real: I value authenticity and being real. Be who you are and not what everyone says you should.

Let’s talk business: My fitness business has survived COVID by pivoting in so many ways and I am proud of the fact that I never gave up, It has not been easy to not only keep the studio going but to help so many women continue to be motivated to pursue their best health and wellness in the past few years but it has been worth it.
Keep it grounded: I am afraid of climbing high mountains, steep escalators, tall stairs and high platforms. I look for railings and don’t look down and hold on for dear life!
Quality time: Life is too short and we all know that but it is hard to slow down and breathe and just be in the present. Laughing and talk with family and friends and enjoy the little precious moments of life.
