These beauty tips essentials you need right now
Many of us have spent our quarantine days makeup-less—aside from putting on a bit of gloss or mascara for Zoom calls. And with wearing a mask now part of the new normal, this, combined with experiencing the refreshing break from putting on makeup daily, the types of cosmetics we choose to shift. “We’ll be focusing more on skincare since there’s not really a point to doing a full face,” says Sandra Yang, a Toronto-based hair and makeup artist with more than 15 years of experience in the industry. She shares her top seven must-haves to toss in your post-pandemic beauty bag.
Brighten eyes with liner.
Yang swears by MAC Cosmetics Eye Kohl in Costa Riche. “For brunettes with brown eyes, this warm brown pencil, with slightly reddish tones, gives a nice warmth, and if you’ve got blue or green eyes, it brightens up your face so much.”
Switch to a facial oil
“With a mask, your skin is trapped underneath the fabric, you’re sweating, and you can break out and bruise from it,” says Yang, who says her own skin has changed so much since turning 40 last year. “I like facial oils as they can work on dry, combination, and oily skin. Aesop Fabulous Face Oil soaks in quickly and isn’t heavy feeling or greasy.”
Extend your hairstyling
“Amika Perk Up Dry Shampoo is a light powder that isn’t gritty and it can extend your look for almost four days. It has a soft scent that isn’t overbearing, and I don’t have to blow out excess powder like I have to with other dry shampoos.”
Hydrate your pout
Masks will mean we’ll be applying a lip color less frequently. To keep your lips well moisturized, Yang’s pick is Burt’s Bees. “Try the ultra Conditioning Lip Balm with Kokum Butter if you prefer something more matte, or the original beeswax lip Balm for a bit of shine.”
Sweep on mascara
“Never doubt the simplicity of good mascara and good skincare. Those two things can make you look more youthful than all the makeup,” says Yang. Her go-to mascara? Maybelline The Falsies, which she says stays put throughout the day, even though a workout.
Protect your skin with SPF
Prevent age spots and protect your complexion with sunscreen daily. Yang, who’s worked with Hollywood stars such as Geena Davis, swears by Avène Antirougeurs Day Redness Relief, which works on all skin types.
GIVE YOUR HANDSSOME TLC
“The Body Shop Hemp Hard-Working Hand Moisturizer is thick and heavily moisturizing. You can wash your hands and they still remain moisturized, unlike other moisturizers that wash away”...
